REST IN POWER
Greg "Campbellock Jr" Pope
1952 - 2010

Pioneer, Legend, Mentor... Friend.

I had the pleasure of knowing Greg on personal level over the last few years. He was truly a pure hearted soul... full of happiness and positive energy to spread for miles. He is one of the founding fathers of Locking, and danced his way from a young child up until literally the day he passed on January 28th, 2010. He taught Locking workshops all over the world and in fact I met him for the first time a few years ago while I was visiting a dance studio in Japan owned by my friend Kuroma named BeatBox. After we met there and did a few video experiments and interviews, once we both got back to the states we began to meet numerous times over lunch back in Los Angeles, where we discussed plans for creating an online tv show about his experiences as a Locking legend. We never fully "locked it" mainly due to both of our schedules of traveling at different times, which was precisely what the show was going to be about... him traveling the world spreading his legacy.

He was always featured at notable dance events, as a head judge for the competitions, and I'd always work my way through a crowded event just to get to him so we could share some words. It always included a chucklish laugh on his part... he was always laughing about something... always smiling and cracking jokes. He'd also always send out email greetings on holidays to everyone which were personalized in a way that was just simply Greg... he was a good guy, a really, really good guy. A true legend, a true pioneer of dance, a master and a mentor... he never stopped. He loved his students, he loved our dance and music culture, and we love him.

I shot some footage with him in an interview I conducted with him a few years ago in Japan which I will definitely go dig up & edit in the next few weeks... I will feature it on the channel when I've had time. For now, here's a clip of Greg in his prime back in the 70's... he's the 2nd dancer who comes out in the video. Rest In Power Greg... thank you for the history & knowledge you gave me during those meetings brother. Your memory will be honored for many years to come. Much respect. -Shux Wun
